Hello, and welcome to my website! My name is Curtis, and I make a living as a private maths tutor around Halesowen in the UK. I like to use some of my free time creating resources for this website.

 

My aim is to provide high-quality written worked solutions for various levels of maths past exam papers, to help students understand how to tackle exam questions and prepare for their exams.

 

Yes, there are videos out there which also do this. However, reading written worked solutions can be quicker and more efficient than watching a video, as well as using less data, which contributes to less need for data centres.

 

Yes, artificial intelligence can walk you through most exam questions. However, I believe AI is a very wasteful use of resources when there are already good quality written and video solutions out there. Personally I try to avoid using AI.

 

Why use past exam papers?

 

They are not the only tool available for revising maths and preparing for an exam, but I believe that every student should be making the most of as many past exam papers as possible.

 

Maths is learnt best by practicing and with questions. It is not very effective to learn from lectures, reading, and watching alone.

 

Students typically understand a topic quite quickly when revising one topic at a time… but then some of this new knowledge is sometimes forgotten by the exam. To retain a strong understanding, topics should be repeated and ideally spaced out over time.

 

Mixing related topics (interleaving) as opposed to doing all of one topic at once (blocking) can be more efficient.

 

Students often struggle with knowing when to apply certain topics in exams. Doing worksheets on one topic removes this practice of recognising what needs to be used.

 

Past exam questions are generally the best quality material for preparing for an exam. There are other resources, but these are often not in the same style and quality.

They ensure that you are doing the right topics in the right proportions. Doing past papers is a great way of finding gaps in knowledge.
